Archiving and Repository Policy

Long-Term Digital Preservation

JPT is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of its published scholarly content. JPT participates in Portico, an independent digital-preservation service for scholarly publications. Portico serves as JPT’s primary external long-term digital-preservation service. JPT’s preservation status can be verified through the Portico publisher record for Universitas Andalas.

Preservation coverage is updated according to Portico’s deposit and processing schedule. Therefore, recently published articles or issues may not appear immediately in the external preservation record.

Local and Institutional Backup

In addition to independent external preservation, the publisher maintains routine local or institutional backups of journal files, article metadata, database records, and other essential publishing materials. These operational backups support website recovery, data restoration, and continuity of journal services. Local and institutional backups complement but do not replace independent long-term digital preservation through Portico.

Preservation and Discovery Services

JPT distinguishes between digital-preservation services and indexing or discovery services. Portico provides independent long-term digital preservation of JPT’s published content. The ISSN Portal provides bibliographic information and verifies the journal’s registered ISSNs but is not itself a digital-preservation archive. 

Indexing and discovery services, including DOAJ, GARUDA, Google Scholar, and other scholarly databases, support the visibility, discoverability, and accessibility of JPT articles but do not replace long-term preservation.

JPT will publicly identify any additional preservation service only after its participation, technical configuration, and deposit status have been verified.

Author Self-Archiving and Repository Deposit

JPT permits and encourages authors to deposit appropriate versions of their manuscripts in institutional, disciplinary, funder, or other lawful scholarly repositories. JPT does not impose an embargo period on author self-archiving. Repository deposit remains subject to applicable copyright, licensing, confidentiality, ethical, legal, and third-party restrictions.

Submitted Manuscript or Preprint

Authors may deposit the original manuscript submitted before peer review. The repository record must clearly identify the manuscript as an unreviewed preprint. It must not be presented as an accepted or published JPT article. When the manuscript is subsequently published by JPT, authors should update the repository record by adding the complete citation, DOI, and link to the official Version of Record.

Accepted Manuscript or Postprint

Authors may deposit the manuscript accepted after peer review but before JPT copyediting, formatting, and typesetting. The deposited file must be clearly identified as an accepted manuscript rather than the final published version. After publication, the repository record should include:

• the complete article citation;

• the article DOI;

• a link to the official JPT Version of Record; and

• an acknowledgment that the article was originally published by JPT.

Published Version or Version of Record

Authors may deposit and share the final published JPT article in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

The repository copy must retain:

• the article title;

• the names of all authors;

• the complete JPT citation;

• the article DOI;

• the copyright and license notice; and

• a clear link to the official JPT Version of Record.

The deposited Version of Record may be shared for noncommercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given and the terms of the CC BY-NC 4.0 license are followed.

Repository deposit does not create a separate publication and must not imply that the repository or another third party owns, publishes, or has modified the official Version of Record.

Third-party materials included in an article may be subject to separate copyright or licensing restrictions. Authors and repository users are responsible for complying with any restrictions stated in the relevant credit line.

Data Repositories and Data Availability

JPT encourages responsible research-data preservation and sharing in accordance with applicable ethical, legal, confidentiality, intellectual-property, biosafety, and biosecurity requirements.

Original research articles must include a Data-Availability Statement explaining:

• whether the supporting data are included in the article or supplementary materials;

• whether the data have been deposited in a recognized repository;

• the name of the repository and persistent identifier, when applicable;

• whether the data are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request; or

• why public access to the data is restricted.

When public data deposition is appropriate, authors should use a recognized disciplinary, institutional, or general-purpose repository that provides stable access and, where possible, a persistent identifier.

Restrictions on public data sharing may be permitted when justified by:

• participant privacy or confidentiality;

• applicable laws or regulations;

• intellectual-property rights;

• confidential or contractual agreements;

• biosafety or biosecurity concerns;

• quarantine requirements; or

• other legitimate ethical considerations.

Any restriction must be clearly explained in the Data-Availability Statement.

Supplementary Materials

Supplementary files published with an article form part of the journal’s scholarly record.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that supplementary data, figures, tables, videos, protocols, and other files are accurate, complete, readable, and free from confidential or unlawfully reproduced content.

Supplementary materials are subject to the same ethical, copyright, licensing, correction, and retraction requirements as the main article.

When a large dataset or specialized file cannot be appropriately hosted by JPT, authors may be required to deposit it in a suitable external repository and provide a persistent identifier or stable link.

Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions

Corrected or retracted articles normally remain in the JPT archive and preservation record to maintain the transparency and integrity of the scholarly record. When an article is corrected, updated, subject to an Expression of Concern, or retracted:

• the article and the relevant notice will be clearly identified;

• the notice will explain the nature of the editorial action;

• the notice and the original article will be linked to each other; and

• the publication history will remain accessible.

A retracted article will normally remain available but will be clearly marked as retracted.

Removal of Published Content

Complete removal of published content will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, including:

• a binding legal requirement;

• a serious infringement of privacy or confidentiality;

• defamatory or unlawful content;

• content that poses a serious and immediate risk to public, agricultural, environmental, or biosecurity safety; or

• another exceptional circumstance in which continued access would cause substantial harm.

When removal is necessary, an explanatory notice will remain accessible whenever legally possible. The notice will provide sufficient bibliographic information to identify the removed content without reproducing material that cannot lawfully or safely remain available.

Permanent Availability of the Scholarly Record

JPT aims to ensure that its published scholarly record remains identifiable, citable, and accessible over time. Changes to published content will not be made silently when they affect the meaning, interpretation, reliability, or publication status of an article. Substantive changes will be documented through an appropriate correction, Expression of Concern, retraction, or removal notice. The DOI and bibliographic record of an article will be maintained whenever possible, including when the article has been corrected or retracted.

Policy Review

JPT may revise this policy in response to changes in preservation technology, repository practices, licensing requirements, publication-ethics standards, or applicable institutional and legal requirements. Questions concerning archiving, repository deposit, or digital preservation may be directed through email: jpt@agr.unand.ac.id
