AI Usage Policy

1. Introduction

Jurnal Proteksi Tanaman (Journal of Plant Protection) or JPT recognizes the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various fields, including academic writing. This policy aims to provide clear guidelines for authors who wish to use AI-based tools in manuscript preparation, it will be enforced starting from the edition of June 2025.

2. Permitted AI Usage

Authors are allowed to use AI to assist with various technical aspects of writing, such as:

  • Language editing and proofreading: AI can help correct grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and improve the readability of the manuscript.
  • Reference management: AI tools can assist in organizing citations, formatting references, and compiling bibliographies.
  • Plagiarism detection: AI-based plagiarism detection tools can help ensure the originality and integrity of the manuscript.
  • Data analysis: AI algorithms can support complex data analysis and present results in a clear and concise manner.

3. Limitations on AI Usage

JPT applies a maximum AI usage limit of 25% per manuscript. Authors must ensure that their manuscript does not exceed this threshold. While AI can be a valuable tool, certain restrictions must be observed:

  • Content creation: Authors are responsible for providing original ideas and intellectual contributions to the manuscript. AI should not be used to generate primary content, including the introduction, methodology, results, and conclusion.
  • Research ethics: The use of AI to manipulate or fabricate data, create fraudulent results, or engage in unethical practices is strictly prohibited.

4. Recommendations for AI Usage

To ensure AI usage aligns with academic standards, authors are encouraged to:

  • Verify AI-generated content: Any suggestions or text generated by AI must be carefully reviewed for accuracy and quality.
  • Disclose AI usage transparently: Authors must clearly acknowledge the use of AI tools for language editing, plagiarism detection, or data analysis in the Methods

5. Ethical Considerations

Authors must adhere to academic integrity and ethical guidelines when using AI. Any instance of plagiarism, copyright infringement, or unethical AI-generated content will be considered a violation of JPT’s publication ethics.

6. Editorial Review Process

All manuscripts, whether AI-assisted or not, will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to assess their scientific merit, originality, and adherence to ethical standards.

7. Policy Updates

This policy may be periodically reviewed and updated to reflect advancements in AI technology and best practices in scholarly publishing. We hope this policy helps authors use AI responsibly while maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity in their publications.
