AI Usage Policy

JPT permits the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation and research. AI must not replace the authors’ scientific judgment, critical thinking, interpretation, or original intellectual contribution. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, references, data, analyses, and conclusions of their manuscripts.

AI Screening

JPT uses Turnitin application to conduct AI writing detection. As general editorial screening benchmarks, submitted manuscripts are normally expected to have an AI Writing Detection score of no more than 25%. A manuscript with a score above 25% may be returned for clarification or revision, withheld from peer review, or rejected based on editorial evaluation. A score at or below 25% does not prevent editorial action when significant ethical or integrity concerns are identified.

Turnitin reports are screening tools and are not used as the sole basis for determining plagiarism, inappropriate AI use, misconduct, or manuscript rejection. Editors will assess the relevant passages, sources, context, extent, disclosure, and effect on the integrity of the manuscript.

Permitted and Prohibited Use

Authors may use AI to support:

• language improvement or translation;
• coding, statistical analysis, modeling, or visualization;
• data classification or image analysis; and
• other legitimate research activities that are clearly described.

All AI-assisted outputs must be reviewed and verified by the authors.

AI must not be used to:

• fabricate or falsify data, results, references, approvals, permits, or research records;
• generate experimental evidence that was not produced by the reported research;
• misleadingly manipulate data, figures, photographs, or images;
• conceal plagiarism or duplicate publication;
• manipulate peer review;
• misrepresent AI-generated content as the authors’ original contribution; or
• disclose confidential, unpublished, personal, or restricted information without authorization.

AI-generated or substantially altered images must not be presented as original experimental or observational evidence.

Authorship and Disclosure

Routine spelling, grammar, punctuation, formatting, or reference-management tools generally do not require disclosure when they do not substantially generate or modify scholarly content.

When AI is used as part of the research methods or data analysis, the Methods section must identify the tool, purpose, relevant inputs or parameters, validation procedure, human verification, and known limitations. Authors must verify all AI-generated references and factual statements before including them in the manuscript.

Editors, Reviewers, and Confidentiality

Editors and reviewers must not upload manuscripts, figures, data, supplementary files, review reports, or editorial correspondence to publicly accessible AI platforms. AI may not replace independent scientific review or editorial judgment.

Editorial Action

When possible undisclosed or inappropriate AI use is identified, JPT may request clarification, disclosure, revision, supporting documentation, or verification of references and data. Serious or unresolved concerns may result in suspension of editorial processing, rejection, correction, an Expression of Concern, retraction, or other appropriate action under JPT’s Allegations of Misconduct.
