About the Journal

Jurnal Proteksi Tanaman (Journal of Plant Protection), abbreviated as JPT, is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal published by the Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas, Indonesia (formerly known as the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases). Established in 2017, JPT publishes two issues annually, in June and December.

JPT provides a scholarly platform for advancing plant protection science and its practical applications in agricultural systems. The journal promotes scientific approaches that enhance plant resilience and support responsible and sustainable pest and disease management.

Manuscript Types

JPT publishes the following types of manuscripts:

Original Research Articles: Reports of original research that contribute new knowledge to plant protection science.
Review Articles: Critical syntheses of published research that evaluate current knowledge, identify research gaps, and suggest future directions.
Short Communications: Concise reports of original findings that make a meaningful contribution to plant protection.

The scope of JPT covers several key areas in plant protection. These include studies on plant pests and pathogens, pest and pathogen surveillance technologies, biological control, induced resistance and plant defense physiology, biopesticides and eco-friendly control agents; integrated pest management (IPM), and agroecological or ecosystem-based plant protection strategies.

Accreditation and Indexing

JPT is accredited at SINTA 3 and indexed in academic databases and discovery platforms, including DOAJ

Management

The journal is managed by an editorial team comprising the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, Associate Editors, Reviewers, and technical support staff.

The Editor-in-Chief oversees editorial policies, scientific quality, publication ethics, and final editorial decisions. The Managing Editor coordinates the editorial workflow and publication activities. Associate Editors coordinate manuscript assessment and peer review within their areas of expertise. Reviewers provide scholarly advice and support the journal’s development, while technical staff support journal administration and the online publishing platform.

The institutional owner and publisher support the journal’s operation while respecting editorial independence. Editorial decisions are based on scientific merit, relevance to the journal’s scope, and compliance with ethical and editorial standards. Institutional interests, personal relationships, funding, and publication fees do not determine editorial decisions.

Journal ownership is separate from copyright ownership of individual articles. Authors retain copyright to their work, and published articles are distributed under the CC BY-NC 4.0, as described in JPT’s Open Access Policy.
